A party run by its members. Every one of them.
Citizens' Party is a participatory party for British Columbia. Members propose, vote on and decide everything, from what we stand for to who speaks for us, in their own neighborhood grid. No board. No backroom. No fees.
Power starts in your neighborhood.
BC is divided into grids. You belong to the one you live in, and that's where you have your say.
Join your grid
Enter your address once to find your grid. We use it to place you, then we don't keep it.
Propose
Any member can propose a principle. Once 5% of the grid endorses it, it becomes a vote every member takes.
Vote
Every vote is open for 72 hours. Members take part. Skip a required vote and you sit out the next 72 hours.
Go BC-wide
A principle that passes in one grid can go to every grid. If most grids agree, it becomes the party's.
Built so nobody can take it over.
Most parties are run by a board and an annual meeting that a few people can capture. Ours is written so that can't happen.
Members are the final say
No board or leader can overrule what the members decide.
Nobody can be pushed out
No leader or board can expel a member.
Recall is always open
Anyone elected can be removed, but only by the members who elected them.
Everything in the open
Party communications are public. There's no inner circle and no private channel.
No fees, ever
Membership is free. Your voice doesn't depend on your wallet.
Decentralized
No central server holds the votes. Members keep copies, so no one can switch it off.
Nobody can change a vote.
Every vote is signed on the voter's own phone and sealed into a chain of blocks. Each block's fingerprint comes from its votes and the block before it, so changing any past vote breaks the chain for everyone to see.
- Signed on your phone. Your key never leaves your device, so nobody can vote in your name.
- Copies held by members. If one copy is altered, every other copy disagrees.
- Open source. The code will be public so anyone can check how it works.
- Not for profit. No ads, no selling data, nothing to buy.
Questions
Does it cost anything to join?
No. Membership is free and always will be. If the party ever raises money for a campaign, giving will be voluntary and the budget will be public.
Who can join?
At launch, anyone who lives in British Columbia. We'll ask for ID later, once the registration system is built.
Can people see how I voted?
Votes appear on the record under a code, never your name. Only you can see which code is yours.
Why do I have to vote?
Because a party run by its members only works if the members show up. Skip a required vote and you sit out the next 72 hours. Optional votes, like BC-wide ones, never count against you.
Who runs it?
The members. There's no board or head office that can override them. Anyone elected answers to the grid that elected them and can be recalled by it.
